One of five new releases and part of a new core range of Jura single malt for 2018.
Aged in American white oak and a combination of 6 different types of French oak (Vosges, bertranges, Jupilles, Allier, Troncais and Limousin if you are interested?)
Nose: Aromatic berry fruits, toasted hazelnuts, aniseed like spice, blueberry muffins, smoke is less subtle here than in the 10 or 12 year old, lemon balm, toasted toffee and vanilla wafers.
Palate: A thicker mouthfeel for Jura, more of that blueberry/forest fruit note, toffee and hazelnut, praline, ginger biscuits, a firm oak presence and some smoke late on (hot chocolate on the bonfire)
Finish: Bitter chocolate, orange marmalade, french toast, toffee apple and wood char and some red berry fruit tea tannins.
Not sure what each individual French oak element brings to the party but a well made and well balanced offering with just subtle hints of smoke.
